Ship Day
2011-02-21 |
The day has come, a day just like when a parent sees their child take off to college, a day where you are both proud and sad. That’s right folks, the day where we ship off our robot and kiss it goodbye until competitions. The Team had a special event that day. It was an event that rewarded us a chance to celebrate and talk about the good times. A day that shall be remembered!

The Team faced some complications after the robot was complete. We had complications in both in the exterior (hardware) and interior (software) of the robot. The Team was not afraid though because we knew and know that any task we really want to accomplish can be done before we even know it! After a few days of frustration, the Team eagerly turned on the robot and… SHAZAM! The robot was doing stuff it never did before. It was not a celebration for Team 597 only, Team 2919 (Fremont) and Team 3752 (West Adams) had their share of joy as they witnessed their own robot performing flips. It was awesome for both teams and our team to see the cooperation and gracious professionalism lead to success!

After a finishing a few touches on our bumpers, we finally got to see Apollo nice and protected nearing its completion. Many unnecessary things were removed from our robot to lessen the weight. Apollo will be underweight no more! Team 597 had a successful demonstration on I Heart Robotics Day because it interested Middle School, High School, Teachers and even the School Police! I Heart Robotics Day was a chance for many to see what the fuss was about with our FRC Robots and FLL Robots. We’re looking forward to the new additions of our family next year. A little after, The Team continued working with Team 2919 which allowed us to bond together; laughs were made and work was done with no problem. A different approach was taken towards our Driver’s Station. Instead of making a measly rectangle that was inconveniently wide and heavy, together our imaginations thought of a die. We prototyped the die and at the same time made adjustments.

While most of The Team graciously helped out Fremont (Team 2919) by guiding them through steps of wiring and mounting, others worked hard on making bumpers to protect Apollo (our robot). The arm was finalized and so was the gripper but we estimated Apollo to be overweight. We have to get Apollo on a diet, or else we might have a problem. Tune in next week for our weekly update!

After hours of heavy brainwork, a concrete design was finally made for the arm. Good job team! A prototype was made soon after, and boy, were we happy to see it work. The Team is looking forward for next when the actual arm will be built. The Minibot Group was successful in making the Minibot; it made it all the way up, but then we had to figure out a way for it to come down nice and safe. Meanwhile, the rest of The Team worked on website, Chairman’s, and Safety. Stay tuned for next week’s update.
